Dr. Harnick attended The University of Maryland Dental School where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. He then attended, after a successful career as a general dentist, The University of the Pacific for an additional 2 years and was awarded a M.S.D. (Master in the Science of Dentistry) with a specialist certificate in orthodontics. The University of the Pacific orthodontic program is well known for its treatment of young children and hence is a major influence on Dr. Harnick's philosophy. Dr. Harnick has lectured before the New Mexico Academy of General Dentistry, the Albuquerque District Dental Society, and nationally. He is also a past-president of the organization, The New Mexico Academy of General Dentistry and of The New Mexico Society of Orthodontists. Dr. Harnick has been certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is also a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry. He is a fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International.

Dr. Harnick maintains professional membership in The American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontics, The Academy of General Dentistry, The American Orthodontic Society and The American Academy of Gnathological Orthopedics.
